Dr Willison K. Mutagwaba has over thirty years of working experience in different sectors including research, academic, natural resources, mining, oil and gas. For the last sixteen years he has been instrumental in managing an environmental consulting business through
which he has undertaken extensive studies. He has provided consulting work for different Governments and institutions, private companies, international organizations and academic institutions. His experience spans from strategic and policy level advisory roles for Governments in Tanzania, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Lesotho and Swaziland. This has included participation as a resource person in various committees and task forces in mineral sector development and reform. He has been instrumental in leading Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for most large-scale mining operations in Tanzania. His work on the environment has included environmental audits, preparation of management plans, implementation of management systems and providing training of company staffs. He has conducted specialised environmental baseline studies and coordinated large research teams for large Projects. He has advised Governments on various aspects of artisanal and small-scale mining (Ghana, Malawi, Uganda and Tanzania) and has participated in developing conflict mitigation strategies, as well as formalising of ASM through piloting, fair trade of gold initiatives. He has led numerous workshops to share the results of various studies and assessments with a variety of governmental, private sector and community stakeholders and is well versed in various participatory approaches. He is currently working as the Managing Director of MTL Consulting Company Limited in Tanzania.

John-Bosco Tindyebwa (Project Director) is a scientist with over 27 years’ experiences in the
extractive industry in East Africa, having worked for the Ministry of Energy and Minerals in
Tanzania for over 15 years before joining the private sector. He is a director with MTL consulting
and has successfully directed several projects and handled public/Government/client
consultations and regulatory issues. In several projects, he has been responsible for the overall
project direction, provision and distribution of resources, communication with client and dealing
with disputes which may arise.
