  1. Assessment of the Minerals Potential for Swaziland and Lesotho (CDE – Brussels) – 2005
    MTL was contracted to carry out the assessment of the minerals potential for Swaziland and Lesotho, identify potential projects and recommend modes of development. The assessment was carried out and a report with recommendations for development of the identified projects was prepared and submitted to CDE.

  2. Mbeya Cement Company Limited
    MTL was in March 2005 Contracted by Mbeya Cement Company Limited to carry out a topographical survey of the quarry for updating of the mined area, survey the drilled areas and pick-up all the borehole locations and other features and update the topographical map of the mine. The survey work has been completed and the analysis, interpretation of data and preparation of maps are ongoing.

  3. Tan Tailings Company Limited
    Tan Tailing contracted MTL in March 2005 to undertake a survey of six small-scale gold mining sites in Chunya District, calculate the volumes of the tailings, and collect random samples for processing design. The survey work has been completed and the data analyses and interpretation is ongoing.

  4. EUROMET Africa
    In January 2005, EUROMET Africa and MTL reached an agreement for MTL to conduct the design of the mining operations and other mine infrastructure for the Panda Hill Niobium mining project. This will entail geological modeling, selection of mining methods, design of the mine per selected methods, identification and siting of key mine infrastructure, manpower allocation and economic analysis of the mining project. Under the agreement, the processing design will be carried out in-house by EUROMET. MTL is currently undertaking the geological modeling component of the project.

  5. Ashanti Goldfields Tanzania Limited (Now - Geita Gold Mines Ltd.)
    In July 1999, MTL was engaged by Ashanti Goldfields (T) Ltd. to assist the company in handling the following issues:
    (a) Processing of an application for a Mining Licence for the Geita Mine;
    (b) Securing of approvals from the Bank of Tanzania for foreign exchange dealings and offshore transactions;
    (c) Processing of Permits to mine in Geita Forest Reserve;
    (d) Acquisition of water right, to draw water for the mine;
    (e) Acquisition of a licence to generate electricity;
    (f) Application for renewal of a number of prospecting licences;
    (g) Application for enlargement of two prospecting licences in respect of cancelled claims;

  6. Ministry of Energy and Minerals – World Bank Project
    MTL (By then known as Geo-mining Consultancy Limited) was in 1997 contracted by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to undertake the component of “Institutional Strengthening: Organization and Staff Training” of the World Bank Project on “Mineral Sector Development Project No. 2648-TA. The work was completed and report submitted in August 1997.

  7. The Loans and Advances Realization Trust (LART)
    MTL was contracted by LART in February 2003 to conduct an evaluation of the Diamond cutting and polishing machinery at Mikocheni plant in Dar-es-Salaam with the aim of disposing-off the machinery. The evaluation entailed assessment of the diamond business in the country, assessment of the machinery and comparing them with those used elsewhere, evaluation of the possible markets for the machinery, etc. The evaluation report was submitted in April 2003.

  8. Konoike Construction Company Limited
    (a) Between 1998 - 2001, MTL was contracted by Konoike Construction Company Ltd. to conduct a feasibility study for the establishment of the most efficient way of running three quarries for the mining of sand and aggregates as shown below:
    (i) Lugoba Quarry – Granite;
    (ii) Mpiji Quarry – Sand;
    (iii) Kunduchi Quarry – Limestone;

    It was agreed that the MTL should also provide technical, regulatory and socio-economic services for the three quarries should the company agree to continue with the operations. Following the development of these quarries, MTL was responsible for provision of support technical services and advisory legal and regulatory services.

  9. ADUCO International AB:
    In 1999, MTL carried out the following projects on behalf of ADUCO International AB:
    (a) Geological and geotechnical appraisal of the Msolwa Sandstone Quarry. All the permitting requirements for the licence to operate a quarry, were also carried out.
    (b) Detailed geological investigations for delineating a limestone reserve at Mjimwema. After identifying the reserves, a drilling programme was mobilized and supervised by MTL. After completion of the drilling programme, the reserves in the area were calculated. Based on the data collected, an engineering design of a quarry and general mine planning of the area were undertaken.

  10. EUROMET Africa
    Between 1999 and to date, MTL has entered into a number of agreements with EUROMET Africa, to carry out the following activities for the Panda Hill Niobium project:
    (a) To prepare and oversee transfer of licence from the original holders to the new owners. This has been completed.
    (b) To carry out detailed review of the previous work done on the project and provide an update on the project database. A report was prepared and submitted.
    (c) To organize and carry out a bulk-sampling programme for collecting metallurgical analysis samples. 3 tonnes of samples consisting of carbonatite rocks were collected, labeled accordingly, permits arranged and shipped abroad for analysis.
    (d) Given the existence of previously drilled cores, an agreement was reached to carry out core logging, sampling, supervision of laboratory analysis of samples and estimation of reserves. This has been completed.
    (e) To compile all available information on the project, analyze it and carry out a review of the estimated reserves. Based on the compiled information, a geological map was prepared, reserves were re-estimated and a programme for further investigations was drawn.

  11. KDCL Minerals (T) Ltd.
    (a) Undertook a geological survey, mapping and preparation of a geological report for a limestone deposit in Shinyanga area.
    (b) Undertook a geological survey, mapping and preparation of geological reports for Pozolana deposits in Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions.

  12. Western Estates Ltd.
    (a) Carried out a detailed geological survey and preparation of a geological report of a tin deposit in Karagwe District, Kagera Region.
    (b) Preparation of quarterly and annual progress reports on the licence area as per requirements of the Mining Act, 1998.

  13. Global Mining Company Limited
    Conducted geological prospecting of a mining license area located in the Kunduchi Limestone mining area in Dar-es-Salaam and carried out a feasibility study of the project including mine design and planning, marketing appraisal, financial analysis and preparation of a detailed business plan of the project. MTL has also been involved in assisting the client in processing and negotiating for project financing.

  14. International Mining Company Limited
    MTL was in 2002 contracted by the International Mining Company Limited to conduct a geological reconnaissance of a gold prospecting license based in Mgeta Area, Matombo District in Morogoro Region. The reconnaissance work which was completed in time, included pitting and trenching, geological mapping, sampling and sample analyses and preparation of a geological report.

  15. Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Tanzania
    An expert from MTL was in 1998 appointed by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to chair a committee responsible for drafting of the Mining Regulations for the Mining Act, 1998. The regulations were successfully drafted and are currently operational.

  16. Vice President’s Office, Department of Environment
    In 2002, an expert from MTL was appointed by the Government to join a team responsible for reviewing applications submitted by the mining companies for the Presidential Environmental Award. Later, the expert led one of the three teams for site visits to evaluate environmental performances and participated in the eventual final evaluation of the applications.

  17. Mahenge Ruby Mining
    MTL carried out a detailed geological investigations aimed at assessing the potential for ruby mining at Mzelezi area near Mahenge in Ulanga District, Morogoro Region. MTL also assisted the mineral right owner in preparing a business plan and negotiations for raising finance.

  18. BOLIDEN CONTECH
    MTL conducted a feasibility study for the establishment of gold refinery in Tanzania. The study involved field visits and discussions with gold producers and dealers on utilization of the refinery, assessment of the technical gold refining techniques, financial and economic analysis of the project.
