- Tanga Cement Company Limited – Environmental Audit –
2003:-
On 5th March 2003, MTL Consulting Co. Ltd. Reached an agreement with Tanga
Cement Co. Ltd. to carry out an Environmental Audit of the operations
and prepare an Audit Report and Environmental Management Plan reports.
The project was completed in December 2004 and submitted to Government
for approvals.
- Geita Gold Mines Limited (AngloGold Ashanti) – EMP Review
– 2003:-
Between June – December 2003, MTL Consulting Company Ltd was contracted
by GGM to conduct a review of the Company’s Environmental Management
Programmes in order to identify new issues and possible impacts that maybe
associated with the extension of the current Special Mining Licence (SML)
to cover the Nyamulilima area located north-west of the current GGM mining
operations and recommend new EMP measures. This is in line with the requirements
of the Mining Act, 1998 and the associated environmental regulations.
Environmental Scoping, EIS and EMP reports have been prepared and were
approved by Government in April 2004.
- Williamson Diamonds Limited (WDL) – Environmental Audit
– 2003:-
In March 2003 WDL contracted MTL to conducted a comprehensive environmental
audit of the 60-years old diamond mining operations with the aim of generating
data for preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental
Management Plan (EMP) in accordance to the Tanzanian mining environmental
regulatory requirements and meeting other international standards. After
submission of the audit report, MTL teamed-up with environmental experts
from De Beers to prepare an EIS and EMP for the project.
- Bulyanhulu Gold Mine - Kahama Mining Company Limited –
2003:-
In February, 2003 MTL Consulting Co. Ltd and Sue Posnik and Associates
of South Africa conducted an environmental audit of the Bulyanhulu gold
mining project for the year 2002. The audit covered all the operations
of the project and an audit report was later submitted to the company.
The two companies were also contracted to conduct environmental audits
for Kahama mining for the year 2004. In addition, the two companies were
also contracted to carry out an audit of the new gold mine, Tulawaka mine
located in the Biharamulo forest reserve in 2004. All the audits were
submitted and approved by the Company. MTL will also form part of the
audit team for the 2005 auditing of Bulyanhulu gold mining project.
- Bulyanhulu Gold Mine - Kahama Mining Corporation Ltd –
2001:-
In November 2001, two experts from MTL combined forces with two experts
from Aloe Environmental of South Africa to form an Environmental Audit
team for the Bulyanhulu Gold mining project managed by Kahama Mining Corporation.
The environmental audit covered different aspects of the gold mining project
within the licence and surrounding areas. An audit report was submitted
to the company in January 2002.
- EUROMET (Tanzania) Limited – Hydrological Study –
2003:-
In January 2003, MTL was contracted by EUROMET (Tanzania) Ltd. To undertake
a hydrological and hydrogeological study within the Panda Hill Niobium
project area with the view of identifying water sources for the project
and identifying potential for groundwater and possible contaminations
sources. The project was carried out and a report submitted to the Company.
- Golden Pride Project (Resolute (T) Limited) – Environmental
Audit – 2002:-
In March 2002, MTL conducted a Compliance Environmental Audit of the Golden
Pride gold mining project located in Nzega, Tanzania and managed by Resolute
(T) Limited. An audit report was prepared and submitted accordingly. MTL
was also part of the consortium that carried out the compliance environment
audit in 2004.
- EUROMET (Tanzania) Limited – EIA Study – 2002:-
In March 2002, MTL was commissioned by EUROMET (Tanzania) Limited to carry
out an Environmental Impact Assessment of the Panda Hill Niobium Project
located in Songwe Mbeya. Field studies were conducted between March and
May 2003 and a Scoping Report was prepared and submitted to the Company
and relevant authorities. Following the Government approval of the scoping
report, detailed EIA studies commenced in December 2004. EIS and EMP reports
for the project were submitted and approved by Government in September
2005.
- Ashanti Goldfields Tanzania Limited (Now Geita Gold Mines
Ltd.) – 2000:-
In collaboration with Wardell Armstrong of UK, MTL was in March 2000 commissioned
to carry out an institutional and regulatory review in association with
the Environment Impact Assessment for the Geita Gold Mine. A report was
prepared and submitted to the Company.
